Contour Practice 2

Image
This was a bit of contour practice I did, I tried to do it without lifting my pencil, but I kept forgetting, and eventually just let it be what it was. 20 min, pencil on paper (8.5 x 11), earbud for scale.

Little Fellows

Image
These are a series of pokemon I drew, as well as my stuffed dog (top left). I drew these as I was falling asleep, but doing it all in pen provided an interesting challenge. 45 min. Pen on paper (8.5 x 11 inch), earbud for scale.

I DON'T KNOW COLOUR THEORY

Image
This fish is modeled after one I saw in Murakami's book. I did not have means to replicate it exactly, so I went in my own direction with the colour. 1 hr. Pencil and marker on paper (8.5 x 11 inch), earbud for scale.

A Bridge by Hand

Image
I began with the lower drawing, just to get a feel for the soft charcoal. I then noticed that my fingers were coated in charcoal, so I rubbed my hand on the page to get more on me, then I smeared it on the following page, and the marks became the posts I built the bridge around. 5 min, soft charcoal (partially by hand) on paper (8.5 x 11 inch), earbud for scale.

Contour Practice

Image
I was practising contour.   10 min, pencil on paper (8.5 x 11 inch), earbud for scale

Experimentation!

Image
I drew this stream of consciousness. I was trying to build my perspective, and circle drawing skills initially, but the page felt empty so I added to it. 20 min, Pencil and pen on paper (8.5 x 11 inch), earbud for scale.

The Alluring Cowboy, Final

Image
I finished the cowboy! He now has John Marston's face    3 hours (total), Pencil on paper (8.5 x 11 inch), earbud for scale.

Chair Practice

Image
This is a chair. I drew it to practice contour. Pencil on paper (8.5 x 11 inch), 10-20 min, earbud for scale.

Son Goku on the Flying Nimbus

Image
This is a drawing of Son Goku, from Akira Toriyama's series Dragonball. I was listening to a retrospective of Dragonball GT, so I was inspired to draw Goku.   I attempted a method my friend told me about, where a structure goes from thicker line at the bottom to thinner lines on top. This drawing took me about 20 minutes, on 8.5 x 11 paper, and was drawn in pencil and traced in pen. There is an earbud for scale.

Regigigas, The Sleeping Titan

Image
So, I love Pokemon, and Regigigas is my favourite design, so I thought it would be fun shape practice, as most pokemon break down into relatively components for drawing purposes. Generation four had the busiest designs to date, some would argue that they are too busy, but I think they strike a good balance. In any case, this took me somewhere between a half-hour to an hour. It is comprised of pencil, pen and marker (though I had no white marker, so I penciled-in the rest of the sheet (8.5 x 11 inch). Also there is an earbud for scale.

Assignment 2- Drawing as a Verb: Takashi Murakami (Not My Work)

Image
These are some of the works of Takashi Murakami, which I pulled from his book Takashi Murakami: Stepping on the Tail of a Rainbow . In class, we were told to "Identify one living artist whose drawing you may find bewildering, or difficult to understand, yet pleasing to the mind and senses (beautiful). Explain why. • Post pictures of their work to your blog and briefly summarize your thoughts. Include any links to your source material." Given that I am using a physical book, I just gave the name. T NFTs aside, I think much of Murakami's work is stunning for not only its use of vibrant colours, but for its having been clearly touched by a few styles as well. First, in the bottom drawing, the background is very similar to classic japanese style art, I want to say from the ukiyo-e style but I lack the familiarity with art history to say definitively. The skulls, especially in the third piece, but also in the first piece, have the variance in form, where some look a bit...

Experimentation with an illustration pen

Image
I was experimenting with my illustration pen, and took inspiration from my sewer perspective experiment. Except this time I filled it with many things that ordinary people do not find in sewers.

Alluring Cowboy WIP

Image
This is a WIP drawing for which I used Michelangelo Buonarotti's "MALE NUDE WITH PROPORTIONS INDICATED" as a reference.  A friend asked me to make a sexy cowboy, and I figured I may as well work on my anatomy while I am at it. I shall add the cowboy features and post the final version later.

Driven by chance

Image
This is a drawing in more of a loose sense. I launched ink I grinded at the paper smeared it around with the grinding stone, and then folded the paper to spread the ink.

Drawn From Life

Image
This is a sketch of the Fine Arts staircase. I had to adjust the perspective in places, and I drew it completely freehand, so I am fairly certain the stairs could have been proportioned better. But, I am happy this drawing came out mostly well!
